KYB Continues its eco Initiative: Varna gets cleaner with the “Plums for trash” project

On November 1, Varna once again became a hub of environmental activity as the city hosted the second plogging event in the year-long cycle organized by KYB Corporation as part of its “Plums for Trash” sports and environmental initiative. Dedicated to Black Sea Day, the event brought together dozens of residents, volunteers, and partners who took to the coastline with one goal — to make it cleaner and more enjoyable.

The KYB team, along with volunteers from Mi Razom and partners from Rodni Balkani, walked along the beaches near the “Veteran” and “Chernomorets” tourist bases. Through their combined efforts, participants collected 60 bags of waste— over 250 kilograms of plastic, packaging, and textiles. All collected waste was sent for sorting and recycling, and the cleaned areas once again became safe and pleasant for walks and recreation.

The event took place in a friendly and positive atmosphere, with families spending time outdoors while contributing to the community. At the end of the day, each participant received a symbolic plum-shaped patch — a nod to the Bulgarian folk tale “Plums for Trash” and an invitation to join the next events. A total of twelve plogging activities are planned throughout the year, and the most active participant will receive a special award from KYB.

The “Plums for Trash” project is a 12-month cycle of sports and environmental events in a plogging format — combining exercise with waste collection. The initiative aims to foster environmental awareness, promote recycling culture, and improve urban public spaces.

After just two events, KYB volunteers have already cleaned more than one ton of waste accumulated during the summer season in Varna’s popular tourist areas. The first event took place in the Golden Sands Nature Park, near Aladzha Monastery and the Jubilee and Kofshak springs.
